Nov 27/28 -The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train hits the rails again in November, visiting over 140 communities. The goal of the Holiday Train is to collect food and money for local food banks and to raise awareness in the fight against hunger. The Holiday Train provides a box car stage and a lineup of great musical talents. Local stops include:Sun, Nov., 27 at East Broadway & Country Road 2, south side of crossing near Bay St. in Merrickville at 6:45pm and in Smiths Falls at 8pm at the Victoria Street, Train Station. Dec 15 -A bus tour to see the Christmas lights has been scheduled for Thurs., Dec., 15th. Cost will be $5/person, children under the age of 12 free.  The Christmas bus tour leaves Davidson's Courtyard no later than 6pm.  The bus tour we will also visit the Country Christmas Shoppe in Jasper, where coffee, hot chocolate and donuts will be served. TFN-Tay Valley is currently compiling a list of all war veterans, including those who have served in either World Wars, The Korean War and subsequent wars, to honour all residents who died while serving their country with a commemorative plaque outside the newly renovated Municipal Office. TFN-The Perth Chapter of Green Drinks meets on the first Tuesday of every month at the Crown and Thistle pub in Perth at 5:30 pm. Green Drinks is an international organization that gives like-minded environmentalists a chance to share ideas, network and have fun.

TFN-The Breast Dress Project will see gently used wedding dresses sold to new brides with proceeds going to breast cancer research. TFN-REAL collects used cell phones through Phone Back Canada. Phones collected may be repaired and reused, or the 30-50% that are not usable and taken apart and their parts recycled. TFN -The West Carleton Country Knitters are a group that knits for charity. They are looking for donations of yarn and knitting supplies. If you can help, please drop off your donation at Island View Retirement Suites at 30 Jack Crescent in Arnprior. Your donation would really help children in need of warm clothing.

TFN-ASK, the Active Seniors Koalition (which welcomes all adults, not just seniors), has some great programs this year: Line Dancing class in Ferguson's Falls Hall every Tuesday from 11am till noon, along with classes at the Middleville Hall every Thursday, also 11am till 12.The cost for Line Dancing is $5 /class .Shuffleboard at Watson's Corners Hall, every Thursday from 11am until 3pm.There’s a brown bag lunch most weeks with a potluck lunch on the last Thursday of every month.
